Marking a juggernaut return for prog/alt metal purveyors Circles, Sleepwalking vehemently emerges as the first new music since the group’s 2018 album The Last One. And while time, a global pandemic, and life in general has fluctuated since the last signs of fresh material from Circles HQ, time has only fortified the group’s knack for weaving impenetrable melodics and bone-shattering riffs, with Sleepwalking ready to rattle anyone from a deep slumber into a realm of sharp and heavy euphoria.

good things hysteria

Wielding skyscraping soundscapes alongside menaced guitars, pummeling grooves, and cascading drumwork, Sleepwalking dazzles with its futuristic mayhem and polished prog, with frontman Ben Rechter yet again in fiery fine form following his Circles debut on the group’s internationally-acclaimed The Last OneProduced by Circles guitarist Ted Furuhashi and mastered by Luke Cincotta (KarnivoolAsymmetry), Sleepwalking is also accompanied by a kaleidoscopic music video, directed by Circles drummer David Hunter.

With more sonic meat than your local butcher and a simultaneous scintillating assault and caress of the senses on full display via Sleepwalking, 2022 is shaping up to be a particularly eventful one for Melbourne’s Circles

And while the now-trademark Circles songcrafting flair is well and truly at the forefront of Sleepwalking, the heaving track also deftly delves into thematics of fear, regret and life outside the comfort zone; themes sadly entirely universal as humanity collectively soldiers on amongst some extremely dark and restricting times. With more sonic meat than your local butcher and a simultaneous scintillating assault and caress of the senses on full display via Sleepwalking, 2022 is shaping up to be a particularly eventful one for Melbourne’s Circles, with the group also returning to the live fray for their Sleepwalking Australian Tour this August and September, with The Omnific, Future Static and Heartline along for the ride. Come for the behemoth basslines and unbridled ferocity, stay for an unforgettable peek into the beginning of a brand new chapter in the Circles story.
