UNDEROATH // Share New Single ‘Pneumonia’

ICYMI: Underoath has shared Pneumonia, the third slice of their seventh full-length, Voyeurist, set to drop on 14th January via Fearless Records.

It’s an epic one, clocking in at over seven minutes, and digs into the experience of death. Typical cheery Underoath fare.

As guitarist Tim McTague explains, it was partly inspired by the loss of his father. “We started writing the song, randomly, on the anniversary of my dad’s death, and to release it exactly a year from that day is wild. I was in a funk and wanted to make something sad but felt drained. The song ended up becoming an audible journey of death and is called Pneumonia because that is what was listed on my dad’s death certificate. It’s also the only song in the history of the band that Spencer and Aaron sat someone down and asked them (me) to help write some of the lyrics, which was truly an honour.”

Voyeurist is the first Underoath LP to be completely recorded by the band. McTague adds: “I’ve always wanted to record our own album. I think we just needed to get into a headspace; personally, that would allow criticism and critique to land in a productive and constructive way.”
Since coming together in the late 90s, Underoath has shared a stack of iconic records, including They’re Only Chasing Safety and Ø (Disambiguation).

Their most recent one, Erase Me, came after an eight-year hiatus. Voyeurist is available for pre-order now. Fans will also be able to nab a deluxe animated vinyl and other exclusive options.
