Brisbane trio Patient Lounge have released a slew of singles this year, and they’ve shown their creative energy with each one.

Their latest, Treehouse, is no exception and may be our favourite work of theirs to date.

As if playing dodgeball with genre classifications, the track is both vibrant and varied. And while the band have celebrated mellow acoustic rhythms, flannel-clad prog moments, industrial metal and more traditional rock elements, they’ve done so in a sophisticated manner. Treehouse is anything but clunky, and while it has a little bit of something for everyone, its sense of balance is its real selling point.

Patient Lounge should feel comfortable going toe to toe with any of their contemporaries because they’ve blown us away with this one.

Just like a great progressive number should, each segment of Treehouse bleeds into the next, and this fully immerses you in the Patient Lounge world for almost four minutes. The lyrics also do a great job of this, evoking a genuine sense of nostalgia. The band has said they were inspired by brighter days and their youth when they felt like they could take on the world. Ultimately, this makes Treehouse atmospheric, anthemic and ultra-relatable, all whilst making it feel like a warm and comforting hug from a loved one. If Patient Lounge didn’t have masters of storytelling on their musical resumes before, they sure as hell should now.

Patient Lounge should feel comfortable going toe to toe with any of their contemporaries because they’ve blown us away with this one. Try and give it just one listen; we guarantee you’ll hit repeat to be caught up in their world again and again.

STICK THIS NEXT TO: Karnivool, Caligula’s Horse, Voyager
