Rap-rock is having a real resurgence lately. Gone are the days of spinning Limp Bizkit’s Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water ad nauseam, there’s now a whole new crop of artists to sink your teeth into and Up Late should be one of them.

Stars is the debut EP for the project, pioneered by Max Pasalic of After Touch, but it offers more than just heavy goodness. Showing off his knack for a little experimentation, the EP mixes a whole lot of rock and rap together, whilst also shining a light on pop, emo and hip-hop. It may seem a little extra but  the results are absolutely incredible.

Stars kicks off with LIKE THIS (V2), a track that exudes *chefs kiss* energy. Distortion and glitchy twitches are the perfect match for Pasalic’s vocals, which flex between soundcloud rapper and early 2000’s boyband. What follows is just as exciting, bringing about an energy that is simultaneously chaotic and completely harmonious.

Stars takes the rule book and throws it out the window and with an introduction this good, there’s no doubt what will follow will be insane.

Fans of Bring Me The Horizon, Post Malone and Machine Gun Kelly’s most recent offering are sure to gravitate towards this EP. And while there are standout moments (see: Fuck You, U Left Me On Read and Friends), there’s not one skippable track to be found and that’s a massive tick in our books. Up Late has single-handedly redeemed 2020 with his debut EP. Stars takes the rule book and throws it out the window and with an introduction this good, there’s no doubt what will follow will be insane. More, please!

STANDOUT TRACKS: Fuck You (Ft. Hearteyes), U Left Me On Read, Friends
STICK THIS NEXT TO: Bring Me The Horizon, Machine Gun Kelly, Post Malone
