Breakthrough is their third EP, and it holds the same creative spark that made their last works so memorable.

Instead of falling into a metalcore Groundhog Day situation like so many before them, The Motion Below has cleverly built the EP on a marriage of pop, 80s, 2000s post-hardcore, emo and more. This leaves the EP with a whole lot to unpack and to love. There’s the fire of the opening track, What Doesn’t Kill You. The ground-shaking solos on Who I Am and the back and forth between Ryan Matheson (cleans) and Thomas Katgert (screams) on Fade.

The Motion Below has hit the mark with yet another gutsy offering. Time for a victory lap, fellas.

There’s the heaviness of No Escape – a kick to the teeth number that will easily be considered the pit starter at their next gig. There’s It’s All The Same – easily the hookiest song on the record. And then there’s Hear Me, which sends Breakthrough off in style. Besides its melting pot of sounds, Breakthrough’s strength lies in its confessional lyrics. They’re self-reflecting, emotional and relatable as hell. And they’ve brought that extra bit of substance to the band’s sound. The Motion Below has hit the mark with yet another gutsy offering.
