TERRA // Keep Your Friends Close & ‘Frenemies’ Closer

terra hysteria

Frenemies is the latest single dropped by Melbourne’s much loved rock band Terra, along with a very reminiscent music video featuring behind-the-scenes shenanigans and the band playing at heavy music festival Unify Gathering 2020.

Terra have come back kicking and screaming after their acoustic singer-songwriter EP Into Deep Blue released earlier in the year. The band describes the new single as “[combining] up-tempo rock with mature dynamics while allowing Cassie’s vocals to shine through like never before”. Frenemies sounds faster, louder and more technically complicated compared to the band’s previous works Talk Is Cheap and Confidence.

Blackened hysteria

Terra says that “the essence of Frenemies lies in the feeling of being betrayed by someone you trust, and let close to you … Frenemies is the clear message that you’ve hurt me and I’m not going to pretend I’m okay with it anymore.” The emotional frustration and anger of betrayal is evident in the lyrics and particularly the chorus of Terra’s new track ‘Don’t trust your enemies/Don’t trust your friends either/They’ll all just leave you for dead’.

Terra first hit the music scene after releasing a pop-rock cover of Vanessa Cartlon’s A Thousand Miles on the band’s YouTube channel, Terra has released their debut single Talk Is Cheap in 2016, moved on to their debut EP Wasted Days in 2017, collaborated with David De La Hoz on the single Confidence, and Terra diversified their music abilities with their acoustic EP Song For Maddie, which has all led up to the release of Frenemies.

While very clearly being present in the Australian music scene, Terra has toured with the likes of Tonight Alive, Knocked Loose and Skillet locally, and interstate with acts such as Storm The Sky, Yours Truly, and Redhook.

Terra’s vocalist, Cassie Sutton, and drummer, Darcy Handley, have also supported their local Melbourne artists in 2020. Cassie provided a higher vocal range for Drastic Park’s single Work Of Art, and Darcy helped with the recording process of All Regards’ debut single Trainwreck.
