Bad Moon Born have released their cover of Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, turning an already dark sounding song into something you would expect in a serial killers Spotify playlist (in a fun way).
Bad Moon Born, who are admitted fans of Billie Eilish and her brand of dark pop, have retained the spooky electronic texture of the original song, and added crunchy guitars, beefy bass riffs, thumping drums and horrorcore styled vocals that bring to mind early Marilyn Manson. This cover exemplifies the bands desire to move towards a heavier, but also dark pop influenced direction which is demonstrated in the monstrous breakdown at the end of the song, with guttural backing vocals and wailing guitars.
“Whilst we’re beginning to move towards a much heavier sound, we’re also starting to pull a bit of influence from modern dark pop.” Says vocalist Jordan Von Grae.
“As the new direction is quite a deviation from the previous iteration of the band, we felt this cover to be a great bridge for that transition. Some of us are also quite big Billie Eilish fans, so the process of re-imagining her work was a lot of fun.”
The Sydney born band formed in 2016 with the release of their debut EP, Chemical Lullabies, and followed that up by relocating to LA and releasing their acclaimed second EP, War Is One. This is the bands second release with new vocalist Jordan Von Grae, following the release of their single Noxa earlier this year. Grae has brought a sense of theatricality to the band through his emotive and skilful vocal delivery.
The band are in the studio and are planning to release a new EP in 2021.
