PREMIERE // BAD JUJU: Drop Grunge Anthem ‘Dawn’ + Share Details of Second EP

It’s been a huge couple of months for Bad Juju. In May, the Melburnians returned to the scene in a big way, releasing an absolute belter in the form of Disappoint.

To say they turned heads would be one hell of an understatement. Aside from a mountain of praise on Triple J Unearthed, it saw additions to Spotify’s Rock Out and Apple Music’s New Music Daily and New Rock playlists.

In our humble opinion, their latest effort, Dawn, is set to completely usurp this success. Drawing inspiration from real-life relationships, the track details the experience of supporting a mate through addiction. Not only hard-hitting lyrically, Dawn maintains the band’s high-octane grunge energy, proving why they’ve become one of the nations most exciting up and comers.

Dawn’ is about a text message – “Do you get lonely because I get lonely too” from a friend struggling to get through the night due to loneliness and using drugs to get through their pain, and our “save me from myself tonight” lyric refers to the drugs saving them from their demons.”, says frontman Russell Holland.

Once again, the five-piece buddied up with Callan Orr (Dream on Dreamer, Bad/Love), who recorded, mixed, and mastered the track at Avalanche Studios. Aside from the track, the band has also confirmed the release of their forthcoming EP, You’re Not Alone, set to drop on Friday, September 4th- FINALLY!

With two tracks as monumental as Disappoint and Dawn, we’re expecting big things from the EP, which is set to offer both lighter and brighter tones and moody, heart-on-the-sleeve rock. Like it’s first singles, it will delve into real, human issues like love, loss, addiction, and grief.

Bad Juju first hit the airwaves in 2017, carving out a name for themselves with the very 90’s inspired, Bloom. Since then, they’ve released their debut EP Hidden Desire, and have been cutting their teeth on the live circuit with the likes of  Mayday Parade, Trophy Eyes, Dream on Dreamer and Columbus.
