Aliencore lords Northlane are pushing the boundaries of their sound once again, announcing a new EP titled 2D.
MORE: REDHOOK: Bad Apples, Bad Decisions and Great Tunes // GOJIRA: ThePower and the Passion // VOID OF VISION: Something Old, Something New REVIEWS: REDHOOK: Bad Decisions // DROPKICK MURPHYS: Turn Up That Dial // ROYAL BLOOD: Typhoons // GOJIRA: Fortitude
It comes hot off the heels of their remix EP, 5G, and is set to feature five acoustic renditions of Alien tracks. To kick it off, the Sydneysiders have shared its first single, Rift.
“Recording an acoustic EP is something that we’ve wanted to do for quite some time and felt right with the personal nature of the songs from Alien. I wanted to strip these songs back to the bare minimum to juxtapose the soundscapes of the album, a 2D version of sorts. A song like Rift has a completely different energy in this context and took on new meaning with the recording in the depths of lockdown, now almost feeling like a cry of frustration and despair.” says frontman Marcus Bridge.
2D will also feature the stripped-back version of Sleepless, which first appeared in the band’s 2020 documentary Negative Energy. The EP is set to drop digitally on Friday, May 21st
Fans will be able to pre-order limited and exclusive 12-inch coloured LP offerings of both 2D and 5G. You can catch all details here.
Northlane will headline Full Tilt festival in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, alongside In Hearts Wake, Hands Like Houses, Thy Art Is Murder and more.
