The much-loved Australian music legend died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Melbourne, Australia.
Gudinski founded the Mushroom Group in 1972 when he was just 20 years old. It is now the nation’s largest independent entertainment group, covering touring, record labels, publishing, merchandising, booking agencies, film and television production and creative services. He was also responsible for Frontier Touring, a company that has brought some of the biggest names in the world to our stages since its inception in 1979. In recent history, he conceptualised and developed Music From The Home Front, The Sound and The State Of Music- platforms designed to shine a light on and support contemporary Australian music in these trying times.
Over the years, he garnered multiple music industry accolades including an ARIA Award for Special Achievement (1992), APRA’s Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music (1998) and the inaugural ARIA Industry Icon (2013); he was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Music Victoria Awards of 2013.
His legacy will live on through his family and the massively successful Mushroom Group – a testament to the years of blood, sweat and tears he put in. His family have respectfully asked for privacy at this time, but thank everyone for their support. Vale Michael Solomon Gudinski AM 22 August 1952 – 02 March 2021
