We’ve long held a bit of a soft spot for the Melbourne based band, but after listening to Purgatory, we’re ready to pledge our undying love to them.

If you’re wondering what it is that’s impressed us so much, it’s the EP’s range. While Purgatory lives under the heavy umbrella, it keeps things fresh (and fierce, might we add) with each track’s different approach. The Last Martyr kicks things off with what we’re sure will be the pit starter at their upcoming gigs, Freaking Out. Gutturals and blast beats make this one extra tasty and have made us insanely hyped for their set at Halloween Hysteria. Then there’s the thunderous Hindsight, one of our standout tracks, in massive part due to the soaring vocals of Monica Strut. Seriously, those screams had us floored!

Hellishly good or heaven-sent, however you want to spin it, it doesn’t get more epic than Purgatory.

Out of Time sees the band at their creative best. It’s poppy and groovy with elements of rap. And, in news that’ll keep all you mosh warriors happy, it’s still pretty darn heavy. Then there’s Like A Ghost, a ‘uge track that’ll have you bracing for impact (hehe) and the nu-metal belter, Afterglow. There are elements tying all these tracks together, but The Last Martyr has proven the key to success is ditching the formulas and setting the rule book on fire instead. Hellishly good or heaven-sent, however you want to spin it, it doesn’t get more epic than Purgatory.
