It was produced by Oscar Dawson and arrives on the eve of their three Victorian headlining shows. In a statement, the band described the track as a ‘dance between the uncertainty of growing up and the reflection of youth’. “To me, it symbolises the shift from teenage innocence to adult ‘bullshit’ and all the fear, excitement and uncertainty that goes with a major change like that.”, says frontman Ciarann Babbington.

21 is their first single in close to a year—excluding their 2020 Christmas release, A Verry Merry Christmas, of course. It follows T-Shirt (March 2020), On My Own (2019) and Can’t Afford It (2019). Making the most of a challenging year, Bakers Eddy spent 2020 writing and recording their hugely anticipated debut LP. It’s set to drop this year, so watch this space!

Bakers Eddy formed in Wellington, New Zealand when they were just 13 years old. Originally composed of frontman Ciarann Babbington, Drummer Jamie Gordon and Bass player Ian Spagnolo, the band quickly recruited Ian’s twin brother Alex Spagnolo on guitar. Whilst still residing in Wellington, the band supported the likes of Gang of Youths, The Rubens and US punk band Highly Suspect.

21 is out now through Ivy League Records; you can buy or stream it here.
