Their unique sound has been carefully constructed taking inspiration from bands like Nirvana, System Of A Down and Korn, all while having a female vocalist who brings the grunge up a notch.

Last year’s debut album Exordium gave listeners a taste of what the band was capable of, and now with some confidence and experience under their belts, they’ve gone heavier than before with the release of brand-new single Kill Me.

The band explains, “lyrically, the theme is around how society kind of brainwashes us and controls us. The writing process for the band focused around the rhythm section, so it’s rhythm based.”

The Violet Stones aren’t stopping there, with an album already in the works they’re coming into the second half of 2020 with a lot up their sleeves.

“With this second album compared to our last one, it’s really shown how we’ve come together and how we’ve started to bounce off each other musically. Comparing this album to the last one, it’s really shown what we’ve become and how we’ve evolved from where we were.”

Sometimes we’ve gone to the gig and it hasn’t really been our sound. They kind of just look at the image and see a female and put us on.

“I think also it’s a bit heavier and more of a fusion of grunge and nu-metal. The influences for this album are System of a Down, Korn. I think it’s a bit heavier influenced whereas our first album was more just grunge.”

“It’s not all finished yet, we have some of the lead guitar and vocals to track and then it’ll have to be all mixed. We’re probably just over halfway to finishing it and the lockdown did affect it a bit obviously, because we weren’t allowed to have people over to record. But now it’s lifted, so we’re able to continue.”

Having a heavy, female fronted band has shown The Violet Stones that it can be both a blessing and a curse, vocalist Sarah Curran says, “we always get compared to Paramore even though we sound nothing like Paramore.”

“We also get gigs out of it, when there’s a lineup of organisers are like, oh there’s a female fronted band, we’ll add that to the lineup. Sometimes we’ve gone to the gig and it hasn’t really been our sound. They kind of just look at the image and see a female and put us on. I guess we’re using the advantages to the best—it’s all we can do.”

As for the future of The Violet Stones, we can look forward to them hitting stages after lockdown and playing an album launch as soon as things are back to normal.

For now, their brand-new single Kill Me is available now worldwide.
