Sydney locals A Swift Farewell are a talented new group of pop-punk kiddos on the Australian music scene.

Their snappy new EP Shattered Glass pays tribute to the band’s own inspiration of the modernisation of pop-punk, with bands like Blink-182Good Charlotte and Simple Plan paving the way for bands like Fall Out Boy to dominate the mainstream and eventually inspire the sound of A Swift Farewell.

“Our sound is based on just us growing up, what we’ve been listening to and what we’re listening to now,” says guitarist Ryo Sprott. “Pop-punk is always changing.”

The members of the band can only be described as motivated and integral musicians, all coming together from a Facebook post shared by lead vocalist Emma Mather. They seemed to have struck gold with one other, as Shattered Glass came to fruition from the band member’s personally written tracks, topped off with the unique A Swift Farewell spin on them in the final writing process.

You always want to get the perfect thing, but there’s no such thing as perfection.

“We’ve actually all individually written a song [on the EP],” tells Sprott. “So in terms of writing this EP, we’ve written a song, shown the band, deconstructed it then put our own touch to it. The only song we’ve ever written as a group was What You Wanted, which only took us two weeks to write—which we were very surprised about.”

“I wrote Home(less) and that took me months. We’re very picky and that doesn’t help us creatively. You always want to get the perfect thing, but there’s no such thing as perfection.”

Upon hearing the EP, listeners can hear the high-quality production of the recording, and for a fresh band it can make or break the initial impression.

“We recorded at the Brain Recording Studios with Clayton and his team. That was a weeklong process, it was actually quite fun with Clayton because he really—and I know this sounds so cliché—but he really pushed us to get the best quality that we really wanted out of our EP.”

Fans of A Swift Farewell will have to be patient to see Shattered Glass performed live, as the band are one of many who have succumbed to the tragic aftermath of the Covid-19 virus.

“We did have a show coming up in May, but because of what’s happening it’s currently on hold. We were planning to do some shows here and there but its put on hold.”

“We’re just hoping all this goes away—we got an EP, we want to play some shows!”
