Forming out of metal band Save the Clock Tower, the Tasmanian natives have pushed any pre-conceived notions of what their sound should be to the side. Instead, they’ve stuck true to a sound that brings all their influences to life. 80s synths, R&B, EDM, and contemporary pop are all on display here and it makes for one tasty EP.

Glitchy beats and silky smooth vocals are the band’s strong suit but Comedown Blues shows them to be capable of much more, bringing heavier riffs and drum fills that are sure to appeal to the pit starter in everyone. Elsewhere Fever Dreams brings out one of the EPs catchier moments, in the form of a hook that’ll be stuck in your head for days on end.

A richly textured soundscape enhances Midnight Club which, at its core, is a tale of love and loss and the very human emotions that come from them. There are standout moments, though. Dopesick details the impact of substance abuse in a relationship and Fever Dreams goes through the motions of struggling to move on. It all adds a palpable sense of pain to the EP, and really who doesn’t love an emotional tune? There’s no doubt about it, SPKEZY are one of the most exciting up-and-comers Australia has to offer. Midnight Club has a little something for everyone and is a sign of huge things to come. More, please!
