Bolting out of the gate with a fury of double kicks and flailing limbs, Glass Preacher is as apocalyptic as this new wave of ‘nu-metalcore’ gets, if we allow PR fluffers to get their way.

Downtuned, pointed riffs blur along at breakneck speed, vocalist Aidan Ellaz coughing up bile and glass just as they ease the gas for a superwide breakdown – all this in the first 20 seconds.

A hellish polemic against men of the cloth corrupted against humanity, Ellaz spits: “Setting fire to the man/That shepherd these deviants by the hand” they go off-script with all notions of cohesion just like their grandpappies in Converge did once upon a time, deftly combining the ferocity of hardcore hip-hop and the some of the most abrasive, caustic riffage spawned deep down in the depths of Earth. The brutality of the titular Glass Preacher is matched only by Dealer’s all-consuming sound.

Glass Preacher will shock and awe even the most jaded heavy fan; too bad we have to wait all the way until May to get a full burning taste of what this compelling four-piece can produce.

Lumbering along for a verse like a Leviathan stomping all that lays beneath, the only thing approximating melody is an occasional pinch harmonic and whip-fast drum breaks that feel more like machine pounding skins than man. After three minutes, pits will become wastelands littered by broken bodies. Glass Preacher will shock and awe even the most jaded heavy fan; too bad we have to wait all the way until May to get a full burning taste of what this compelling four-piece can produce.
