The EP was recorded at The Gramercy in New York City last year in support of their most recent full-length album Ritual.
Vocalist and guitarist Max Cavalera says, “New York is a mesmerising city; the city that never sleeps! I always look forward to playing in NY. The Gramercy is a great venue and the Soulfly crowd was in the trench frontlines of a battlefield, crowded and moving like some kind of tribe.
“I hope this unforgettable night of metal in NY can uplift you during this quarantine. Start a pit in your living room! I’m in quarantine too, and together, with metal, we will all get through this! Let the ritual begin!”
The audio for the EP was mixed and mastered by Charles Elliott (Abysmal Dawn) from Tastemaker Audio. Soulfly have also shared a live music video for the track The Summoning, a relentless performance from the band also recorded at The Gramercy.
Formed in Phoenix Arizona, Soulfly has been around since 1997 with a staggering eleven studio albums. They incorporate different styles of metal with Brazilian tribal and world music, and even explore other styles and genre such as reggae and acoustic. Their earlier stuff had lyrical themes of religion and spirituality while their newer stuff encompasses themes of war, violence and aggression. In their time as a band they’ve toured alongside names like Ozzy Osborne, Slayer, System Of A Down and Snot.
