The Aussie indie rockers The Smith Street Band have announced their return to live music with a handful of unplugged shows happening in Melbourne and Sydney in early March 2021.

While only having the chance to play only nine shows in 2020, the six piece band are getting back into routine and kicking off their post-lockdown touring lifestyle with three acoustic shows in their hometown of Melbourne and in the state’s neighbouring city of Sydney.

The shows will match up with the release of The Smith Street Band’s new record and concert film Unplugged in Wombat State Forest, which involves some reworked songs recorded live at the band’s very own Bush House Studios.

Besides playing nine shows in 2020 the band have remained busy while unable to tour and rehearse together. April saw the release of their fifth studio album Don’t Waste Your Anger, which debuted at #1 on the ARIA album charts. Two digital-only live albums were released including Live At The Triffid, recorded in Brisbane and Viva La Rev, recorded at Melbourne’s The Reverence Hotel in Footscray, which charted at #4 and #30.

The Smith Street Band’s frontman Wil Wagner also released his first solo album during 2020 called Spiralling, that charted at # 8 on the ARIA album charts, making it his first solo project to land a top 10 spot for solo recording.

With the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in Victoria, the band started preparing for covid-safe shows, including re-writing some of their own songs for the special acoustic seated shows for their fans in March 2021.
