Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
Five piece Melbourne metal band Pridelands have announced that their new label home will be with Resist Records. To celebrate the good news the band has unleashed a brand new single titled Heavy Tongue.

“We’re insanely humbled to be working with Resist Records for this release. So many of the bands on their roster have influenced us in some way over the years. Some we consider good friends, and some played a massive part in shaping and inspiring us”, says Pridelands guitarist Liam Fowler. Resist Records have previously represented artists such as I Killed The Prom Queen, Parkway Drive, Polaris and Better Half.
Following on from their 2019 Dark Sources single, Heavy Tongue is described by the band as being heavy both instrumentally and in terms of its message. The song highlights the corruption and mismanagement of the devastating Australian bushfires from 2019 to 2020.
Liam Fowler continues with the meaning behind the song as, “lyrically, the new single is at heart, a song about corruption in our home country of Australia”, he adds that “the track highlights tones of inequity, ranging from parliamentary ignorance, to the lack of indigenous cultural teaching in our education systems, to gender inequality.”
The track also pays homage to the iconic legendary Australian rock band Midnight Oil. Some Heavy Tongue lyrics include“By the time that you accept/That we’re on fire/The midnight oil spills out from the urn/but all our beds are damned to burn away”, referencing Midnight Oil and their song Beds Are Burning.
After winning the triple j Unearthed competition to perform at UNIFY Gathering’s main stage in 2019, Pridelands will also be joining Gravemind as the main support on their upcoming 2021 Conduit Tour next month.
