PREMIERE: KILLED BY CUPID // Magic

Not sure if you want to dance or cry? Adelaide’s Killed by Cupid’s got you covered with their debut single, Magic.

MORE: SUNK LOTO: No More Anxiety // STEEL PANTHER: Bringing The Debauchery Down Under REVIEWS: RAISED AS WOLVES: Nervous Feelings  // THORNHILL: Heroine // ALEXISONFIRE: Otherness // GREY DAZE: The Phoenix // JOYCE MANOR: 40 Oz. To Fresno // STAND ATLANTIC: F.E.A.R

It’s a track that will send you right back to your scene days, with its lashings of pop-punk, emo, and hyper-pop and its delectable trap beats.

Eagled-eared listeners might recognise the vocals of Jesse Cumes, the brains behind the project, who also fronted the now disbanded emo-rock group Memory Castles.

In a statement, Cumes explained the track was inspired by a breakup and the emotions, self-loathing and idealisation of his ex that followed.

Magic is a song essentially documenting the period of spiralling and general lack of self-care that ensued after a breakup which left me temporarily an utter mess.”

Despite its heavier themes, Magic champions a bright and bubbly soundscape—complete with singalongs, auto-tuned vocals and sugary sweet melodies. If you had Metro Station, Nickasaur! or Yellowcard on repeat on your trusty iPod nano, or if Waterparks, lil aaron, and Oliver Tree dominate your Spotify now, we’re sure you’ll dig it.

Killed by Cupid will release Magic on July 8th and will also celebrate its release with a hometown show on July 22nd.
