PREMIERE: THE DANDYS // Take You Home

Fine and dandy like bubbling alt-rock candy, the brand new track Take You Home from Brisbane/Meanjin trio The Dandys is one you’ll want to take home and play on repeat.

An affable hook-machine laden with carbonated basslines, swaying rhythms and grunge-infused pop, Take You Home is yet another polished sonic outing for The Dandys, with its compelling rough edges sublimely balanced by its sleek production and toe-tapping ways.

A track that, on paper, may appear to be a innocuous invitation, the true meaning behind Take You Home actually harbours much darker fare, as lead singer Mads Protheroe reveals: “At the time, I had been listening to a lot of serial killer podcasts and I decided it would be an interesting approach to write from the perspective of one and try and get out of my head all the time and in theirs a little bit. It was a really different way from how my lyrics usually come about, but it’s basically a song about a one-night stand, from the perspective of a serial killer. Instead of picking up a date, he’s picking up a victim”.

While still relative newcomers on the scene, The Dandys have swiftly found their feet since emerging from a uni project late last year, with appearances at Teneriffe Festival, a previous sold out single launch in Brisbane, and performances alongside the likes of Peach Fur, The Dreggs, and Bakers Eddy already in their wake. And already in command of two infectious singles, Good Life and Lemons, Take You Home is yet another glowing addition for the group’s ever-expanding brand of grunged-up indie rock.

The Dandys will be christening their brand new track onstage on Friday 26 August, launching the single at Black Bear Lodge, with supports from Square, SAMMM. and Flamingo Blonde. But before witnessing the track live in action, go hit that play button and grab some repeat spins below.
