Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
As fearless as ever, Adelaide extreme metallers Freedom Of Fear are back today armed with a ballistic new single Zenith alongside the confirmation of a new album Carpathia due out on Friday October 21 via EVP Recordings.

Roaring into September with a ferocious blend of black metal, tech-death and melodic death metal mayhem, Zenith is equally bombastic and immersive as the Adelaide quartet flex between fiery guitars, sludging grooves, pummeling beats, and caustic vocals, while simultaneously traversing a mystical narrative set under a ‘zenith moon’, as Freedom Of Fear guitarist Matt Walter elaborates: “Lyrically it explores the effects of consuming a ‘magic potion’. Set under a full moon on the coast, the subject goes through a psychological transformation, facing their subconscious thoughts and underlying animalistic instincts. The lyrics largely personify the ‘zenith moon’ as a perceived source of both wisdom and danger”.
Following the release of their debut album Nocturnal Gates back in 2019, Freedom Of Fear have gone on to stake their claim in the thriving Aussie metal underground, with tours alongside Fleshgod Apocalypse, Jinjer, Thy Art Is Murder, The Black Dahlia Murder and many others already in their wake. And emerging from the pandemic with more fervour than ever in 2022, fans will be pleased to know that the quartet’s elegant, excess, and unbridled technicality has only strengthened since they first set tongues and ears wagging a few short years ago. Teaming up with German tech-death icon Hannes Grossmann (Necrophagist, Obscura) on drums for Carpathia and mixing via V. Santura (Triptykon, Dark Fortress), the impending new Freedom Of Fear album is set to ultimately draw together old school virtuosity with measured sensibilities, while undeniably injecting the dazzling might that comes with any Freedom oO Fear release firmly into the world.
Freedom of Fear’s new album Carpathia is due out Friday October 21 via EVP Recordings, with the latest single Zenith out now. Hometown fans in Adelaide can also catch the band’s album launch on Saturday October 22 at Lion Arts Factory, with more live dates to come.
