Feeling festive this Christmas season but still want to be pop punk? Good news for you then, because Bakers Eddy has released an upbeat pop punk Christmas inspired carol called A Verry Merry Christmas to kick off this festive season.

From what was initially a joke, the “Melbourne-via-Wellington four-piece” band Bakers Eddy wanted to join in on the holiday fun. The band says that “The idea of doing a Christmas Song went from ‘hey wouldn’t it be hilarious if we …’ and [it] turned into the most important endeavour this band has ever embarked on.”

A Verry Merry Christmas is the latest single from Bakers Eddy since  releasing T-Shirt in March. This festive tune was produced by Oscar Dawson with the band at the easing of Melbourne’s lockdown restrictions. A Verry Merry Christmas follows on from Bakers Eddy’s previous series of singles including, T-Shirt, On My Own and Can’t Afford It.

The band says that with “Dry sarcasm aside, this was a fun little project and we hope this adds a bit of spice to everyone’s Christmas Caroling. Who knows, maybe our dream of making it onto one of those awful Christmas Compilation CDs will come true”, they might even make it onto a Mariah Carey All I Want For Christmas Is You Compilation CD,  or better yet, Bakers Eddy’s festive tune would more likely fit perfectly on a pop punk mixed CD with New Found Glory’s Christmas track December’s Here.

Despite the lack of touring opportunities in the past year, Bakers Eddy have spent the past few months in hibernation, in music terms that means that they have been in writing and recording mode. The band have confirmed that they will be releasing their debut album in 2021. But, for the time being, the band has dropped a Christmas song and have taken to YouTube as a platform to connect with fans and entertain them with videos of the band’s antics off stage.
