ICYMI Perth’s powerhouse metal band Tempest Rising dropped their new single Awakening early last week.

The track follows on from the band’s previous single Downfall also released in 2021.
Inspired by heavy metal bands such as Sevendust and Arch Enemy, the band has described their new song as starting with a ‘merciless punch’ that sets up the soundscape for the track. Awakening also features heavy and rhythmic guitar work balanced by curated lead lines, tight drums and bass grooves.
The song also includes Vin Trikeriotis’ signature extreme vocals contrasted with clean vocals to cut through the heaviness of the track, as a result creating a versatile sound. The song closes with the anthemic repetition of the following lyrics “This is a fucked up world”.
Vin Tikeriotis explains the meaning behind Awakening, as “lyrically the song is about coming to realise that you can’t change the core of your being. You are who you are and trying to go against you nature is painful and detrimental to your psyche.”
Tempest Rising’s latest track was written in guitarist Daniel James’ house, using the initial inspiration from a poster that was collected from the band’s Japan tour. The band got to work with the collaborative process and according to Vin Tikeriotis, “we all took part in the creation of the beast that is Awakening.”
After the release of their 2019 album Alter Ego, the band has toured nationally and internationally with acts such as Marduk, Kataklysm, and Hypocrisy, including headlining a European Tour. Tempest Rising has also shared stages with artists such as Arch Enemy, Sepultura, Sevendust and Apocalyptica, just to name a few.
With two singles already released by the band this year, Awakening and Downfall, Tempest Rising shows no signs of slowing down in 2021.
