When music fans look through the history books, they’ll see this era as the one that helped pop-punk reclaim its spot right at the top of the world—no doubt due to the work of our Lord and saviour, Travis Barker and the string of killer releases that have dropped recently.

With the resurgence of the genre has come a whole host of new bands, notably Reborn Freedom.

And on their debut EP, No Strings Attached, the Novocastrians have championed a nostalgic sound, paying homage to the likes of New Found Glory, Simple Plan and Blink-182. The record features six punchy, powerhouse offerings and kicks off with Memory, immediately introducing an old school pop-punk/emo tinged soundscape. Scenior citizens will be transported right back to the halls of their high school, and the days spent with their earphones firmly in and swoopy fringes gelled to perfection.

And they’ve proven that pop-punk still has plenty to offer the world.

Reborn Freedom keeps the energy up all the way throughout with their thunderous riffs, wicked basslines and huge drum beats. No Strings Attached also has a raw, live-feel quality to it, which makes things feel that extra bit genuine. The band are at their best on the EP Closer, Emotion Sickness. True to its name, the track is a heartstring puller. With its overdose of feels, it’s the perfect note to end things on and shows the maturity of their songwriting. Reborn Freedom hasn’t rewritten the playbook, but they’ve crafted an excellent EP. And they’ve proven that pop-punk still has plenty to offer the world.
