They’re Just Being Friendly is a record with a proud rough around the edges streak.

MORE: NORTHLANE: From the lyrics to the avant-garde inclusion of trance and DNB elements, Obsidian truly showcases a new era for Northlane. // OCEAN GROVE: Another Voyage To Oddworld REVIEWS: SIMPLE PLAN: Harder Than It Looks // WINDWAKER: Love Language // SILVERSTEIN: Misery Made Me // STAND ATLANTIC: F.E.A.R

It’s raw, rocking and could be the springboard that sends the band straight to the top of our alt-rock scene.

This is primarily due to how much the EP offers in its 15 and a half minute run time. They’re Just Being Friendly kicks off with Again – a riffy, fast-paced number made even better with fun additions like the countdown intro and screams. Then there’s Wait, which we called a “gritty, grunge soaked offering that’ll leave you pining for the 90s” earlier this year. Aside from being less balls to the wall punk than its predecessor, Wait proves the band can sonically do it all and do it well.

They’re Just Being Friendly sees Lunchtime build more musical muscle. The result is their most diverse work to date.

Then there are the middle tracks, Blowjobs & Bubblegum, sure to be loved by Riot Grrrls everywhere, and Demented Glue, a showstopper with punchy melodies and an even punchier vocal performance from sisters Constance and Eden Grafos. Finally, there’s the EP closer, The Sound Turtles Make. When we spoke to Constance about the EP, she named this track one of her favourites, and we reckon it’s one of ours too. It’s gloomy, adding even more sounds to the melting pot. And it’s also high up on our list of tracks we need to hear live. They’re Just Being Friendly sees Lunchtime build more musical muscle. The result is their most diverse work to date.
