Alt-rockers Hot Reno are back at it again, this time with a killer new single, Pray.

Since forming in a hot, suburban tool-shed in late 2017, the quartet (who hail from the Gold Coast) have released a steady stream of singles, as well as their debut EP, Stab in the Dark; making a name for themselves with their heavy guitar riffs and clanging drum beats.

This time around the band has shied away from the style of their 2019 EP, championing a dreamy, almost shoegaze-y sound instead. Inspired by this new soundscape, Pray is slow and subtle to begin, transitioning into a richer soundscape with cowbells and fuzzy guitar riffs.  

Pray is just a glimpse of what’s to come from one of Australia’s most exciting up and coming alternative acts.

When we reviewed Stab in the Dark last year, we called out frontman Harley Jones’ lazy, drawn-out vocals as a real highlight and this remains true on Pray. His lo-fi chords define the track and are the perfect accompaniment to lyrics centred around the idea of karma. And while their past work had nods to the likes of Violent Soho, Dune Rats and DZ Deathrays, the band has this time found inspiration in acts like Dive, Sonic Youth and Title Fight. Despite this stream of influences, Hot Reno has championed an alternative soundscape that manages to both sit in line with their contemporaries and have its own unique identity. 

Pray is just a glimpse of what’s to come from one of Australia’s most exciting up and coming alternative acts. Hot Reno is here to dominate and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
