Melbourne’s Everlyne may be relatively new to the scene, but they’ve shown quite a knack for experimentation in their time together.

With their earlier singles, they championed a much more emo/pop-punk driven sound. Now, on Deranged, they’ve embraced a flair for the dramatic and their alt-rock sensibilities.

While the haunting vocals of frontwoman Mac Shaye add a lot of depth to the track, we can’t go past the powerhouse performance of the entire band. Brothers Nathan (guitar) and Jordan (bass) Borg and Sam Stone (drums) have dipped their toes into the metal world, and it’s paid off in a big way. Ultimately, when you consider their partnerships with Callan Orr (Dream On Dreamer) and Beau Mckee, it’s no surprise that they’ve served up exactly what heavy music dreams are made of.

Everlyne is a force to be reckoned with, and if they keep dropping unique and high-energy offerings like this, the world will soon know it.

Thematically, the band was inspired by isolation and mental health, writing the track from the perspective of a girl slowly losing her mind and hearing voices in her head. It’s dark, a little creepy and fully embodies the Jekyll and Hyde dynamic the band was aiming for. It makes for one compelling listen, and it’ll undoubtedly pierce the soul of anyone going through similar struggles.

While it’s clear the band has taken cues from the likes of Evanescence and Halestorm, they’ve still set themselves apart with Deranged. Everlyne is a force to be reckoned with, and if they keep dropping unique and high-energy offerings like this, the world will soon know it.
