On their debut EP, Wake N Repeat, the Rockhampton duo has boldly blended alt-rock, nu-metal, R&B, pop and emo together. The best part? It actually sounds good. Where other bands have fallen short by delivering a clunky, overworked soundscape, East Capri has focused on balance. This carries through to the vocals of Eden Cartwright. From the soulful tones on Depart to his powerhouse screams on Liberate (pit warriors, get keen!), his range has shone through.

And we can’t forget about guitarist Jackson Deasy. His performance is on a whole nother level here! Spending four years jamming together before releasing their debut EP undoubtedly did the duo a world of good, helping them perfect their DIY approach whilst also bringing their unique genre of East Capri to life.

Scene newbies, take note. This is how you make an entrance!

As impressive as this all is, their lyricism is our highlight. Wake N Repeat was born out of tragedy and pain, and by switching up the style of each track, Cartwright and Deasy have let their loss and personal battles do the talking. The distortion on its title track is eerie and embodies the feeling of wrestling with your mind.

Both Depart and Jean are emotional and atmospheric, influenced by the loss of a loved one. Depart, in particular, adds that extra bit of intensity with its use of layered, desperate questions as a backing vocal. Ultimately, by being vulnerable, the band has delivered something beautiful. Scene newbies, take note. This is how you make an entrance!  Wake N Repeat is melodic, heartfelt and memorable, and worth every ounce of hype it will receive.
