If you haven’t yet wrapped your ears around the sonic goodness that is dave the band, now is a damn good time to start. Having spent the last few years turning heads with a string of killer EPs, the Newy locals have finally released their debut full length, Slob Stories.

Building on the raw, punk energy introduced in their earlier work, the LP was recorded in Chicago with the legendary Steve Albini (Nirvana, The Pixies)—a partnership that undoubtedly did the trio the world of good. Backed by his years of experience, the band have demonstrated a slicker, matured approach to their sound- one that brings out the best in both frontman Noah Church’s candid “brain-to-page” lyricism and vocal techniques.

In the band’s words, growing up with vinyl-collecting parents introduced them to a helluva lot of music, including You Am I, Built To Spill, Pixies and Custard. Naturally, this influence can be felt in the record, which experiments with different sounds, both contemporary and retro.

At its core Slob Stories is a defiant punk record, but tracks like Get Smart dip their toes into the alt-rock world of the 90s. Elsewhere, Sadsack moves them into softer, indie-esque territory. Aside from showing the clear love of sound embedded in their DNA, this genre-shifting shows the trio’s potential- we’re already excited to see more in their next release!
