Easter Is Cancelled is the follow-up to 2017’s Pinewood Smile, and it is their most ambitious work to date. 

First announced with a promo video earlier in the year, the concept record sees the band embrace their theatrical side. Taking on the role of conceptual storyteller, they dig deep into the dichotomy of life and the brutality of man. It’s said best in frontman Justin Hawkins’ own words, “The song cycle defines human existence through a parable—the slow lingering death and eventual glorious re-birth of rock and roll.”

At its core, Easter Is Cancelled is the tale of love, loss, heartbreak, redemption and brotherhood.

On their quest to uncover the core truths of life, and fight through the dark times the band make use of what seems like every musical instrument possible. Big guitars and even bigger melodies are the cornerstone of the operatic LP and are perhaps strongest on opening track Rock and Roll Deserves to Die. Aside from causing an almighty ruckus, the five-minute epic is easily the standout track of the record.

At its core, Easter Is Cancelled is the tale of love, loss, heartbreak, redemption and brotherhood. It is a record of biblical proportions and it journeys through life, coming full circle with its closing track We Are The Guitar Men. Don’t let its medieval vibes fool you, it will cement The Darkness’ status as the future of rock and roll.
