Reefer Madness is the debut full-length from budding Sydney rockers The Bifters, and we reckon it’s pretty dope.

Recorded and mixed by George Georgiadis and coming in at eight tracks long, Reefer Madness captures the spirit of old-school rock and roll, but adds a modern twist.

Reefer Madness kicks off with BWS, a bluesy party starter complete with the rich, retro vocals of Rory Wheatley. It’s also a celebration of bass and drums (courtesy of Jared Curry and Gus Hart).BWS is a clear standout, as are Lords of the Green and Suga Mama – two tracks that are sure to have you spinning your mates around your locals dance floor. Reefer Madness does see the band dip their toes into doomy waters. But at its core, it is a blues rock record.

Those first discovering The Bifters might ask the question: can these blokes make a lasting impression on the Oz music scene. With a record as addictive as Reefer Madness, it’s safe to say yes, they can(abbis).

While Reefer Madness may not be a masterclass in technical skill, with its simple structure, it’s championed the most important things – energy, joy and bucketloads of groove. Aside from all its gold star sonic moments, Reefer Madness has also dished up some pretty tongue-in-cheek lyrics. By focusing their writing on the theme of cannabis (well, duh), The Bifters have shown off their witty, sassy side. And with the movie samples they’ve sprinkled throughout the record, they’ve added even more flair. Those first discovering The Bifters might ask the question: can these blokes make a lasting impression on the Oz music scene. With a record as addictive as Reefer Madness, it’s safe to say yes, they can(abbis).
