Brisbane’s Friends of Friends are back with Way Out, a sizzling new tune that we’ll be singing along to all day—just try and stop us!

It follows on from the Triple J approved, Heaven, and their recent signing to Ingrooves. And it’s also accompanied by a music video that’ll bring back memories of house parties (and all the existential crises we stumbled upon at them).

“This track is my absolute favourite,” says songwriter Barnaby Baker. “The lyrics are a series of memories I have about going out to raves and house parties only to end up staring into the bathroom mirror halfway through the night, wondering why I went out. I struggle with derealisation, especially in busy environments like parties, and I often feel as though I’m stuck watching myself in third person and can’t switch off the autopilot. This track is a little dark and cathartic at times, but ultimately it’s a tongue-in-cheek take on wanting to stay home and instead finding yourself asking pointless metaphysical questions at a party you’ve begrudgingly gone to.”

Feeling both nostalgic and fresh, the track was influenced by Baker’s love of UK garage and 2000’s indie rock. And we reckon fans of The 1975, Slowly Slowly and Placebo will love it. It was mixed and co-produced by Northeast Party Houses Malcolm Besley – with this undoubtedly giving the track that extra edge.

In recent times, Friends of Friends have racked up over a million views on Tik Tok, airtime on Triple J and sold out a stack of headline shows. They promise to make 2022 a big one, so keep your eyes peeled on their socials for more.

Way Out is available to stream now.
