The Tokyo natives are relatively new to the scene, but they’ve been making major waves in their homeland with their equal parts traditional and unique take on hard rock. Now, they’ve shared their latest belter, Making History, and it’s sure to get them attention on a global stage.

The track was produced and mastered by Grammy-nominated Tyler Smyth (Falling in Reverse, I Prevail) and mixed by Christoph Wieczorek (Annisokay). It’s the first taste of their upcoming yet-to-be-announced debut record, and it’s just as explosive as their prior singles. “Being a producer and mixing engineer from Germany, you don’t have the pleasure to work with Japanese bands often, so I was pretty stoked when The Cards I Play asked me to mix their record. These guys are extremely talented, and it’s awesome how they mix some traditional sound and music influences with modern metalcore! Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t heard them yet,” says Wieczorek.

The band has also shared the official music video for Making History. Filmed with a whole stack of their friends, it’s full of good vibes, but it takes a dark turn at the end. In our upcoming interview, the band revealed the clip is the first part of a saga that will continue to unfold, so we’ll be keeping a very close eye on their socials for more.

The Cards I Play’s last single, Full Circle, debuted in the top 20 of the Japan iTunes Metal Charts last year. The band also headlined their debut show in February 2020, right in the heart of Tokyo. They had planned to tour a whole lot more, but the pandemic forced them to press pause on all shows.
