The album was born out of the need to create music, and Sanders remarks the grief of his idol, David Bowie, passing away was a driving force that made him unlock his emotions, lock himself in a room and write a track from start to finish.

It has an understated recorded-at-home quality, and rather than cheapening the experience, it allows a transparent vulnerability that creates an immediate intimate link between the listener and album. It’s the same sort of feeling you get when you see someone cry in public, you feel for them from a distance, and it may have such an impact that your day changes around it.

It’s a punchy rock album that will leave you feeling emotionally fulfilled and a little less alone in the world.

XIII’s Bloody Banks Of The Swan is the same, it maintains some similar elements to what Gyroscope as a band possessed but overall has much more of a feeling of totality. The drums are punchier, the vocals have more of an unhinged charm, and the guitar is unrefined and messy—it makes for a bloody good listen.

Bloody Banks Of The Swan encapsulates the feelings of struggling with a general direction for life, getting too drunk, treating people you love poorly and ultimately making bad decisions forced by the pressures of life. It’s a feeling everyone can relate to, the innocent fear that things are getting away from you … and Bloody Banks Of The Swan manages to capture every emotion of sadness, anger, apathy and confusion when everything gets too much. It’s a punchy rock album that will leave you feeling emotionally fulfilled and a little less alone in the world.
