Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
Perth’s own powerful rock export Tired Lion have made their long-awaited return with the massive new single Waterbed.
MORE: PARKWAY DRIVE: Triumph Of The Underdogs // KICK OUT THE JAMS With WAAX REVIEWS: VIOLENT SOHO: Everything Is A-OK // ENTER SHIKARI: Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible // THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER: Verminous // TRIVIUM: What The Dead Men Say // BOSTON MANOR: Glue
The track explores cultural fads and detaching oneself from nostalgic feelings of the past. Vocalist Sophie Hopes explains, “I guess I always found waterbeds fascinating–they came with guarantees of abolishing back aches, better sex, curing insomnia etc. – none of which actually happened.”
“I read that apparently a lot of people didn’t last more than a month with them. The song represents that you could buy into the idea of something but when you get there the reality is actually far from what you expected. Looking back on memories, sometimes things just don’t work out the way you thought they would–the song is about cutting ties to the past.”
The video for Waterbed depicts Hopes as a scowling, smoking nun and was directed by Rome/Rory Pippan (Mallrat, Groceries, All Day, Lungs).
Although it’s been a fair stint since Tired Lion’s last release, 2018’s standalone single With Or Without You, Hopes’ relocation from Perth to Brisbane saw brand new energy and evolution for the band, while still crafting the pop-hooked, big-riffed sound that defines Tired Lion.
Sophie Hopes has earned herself a reputation as one of Australian music’s most fiery, heart-on-your-sleeve, take no prisoners personalities and continuously lights up the stages of venues and festivals across the country.
Waterbed is available to watch and stream now.
