On what inspired the track, guitarist Bradley Maddaford says:”… the song is about the best and worst times of my life. They coexisted. Through the worst parts, a lot of beautiful things bloomed – and this song expresses the frustration, and the letting go in that time period.”

In early 2020, after winding down from their respective music projects, the members of Sunbleached came together with the common goal of creating genuine and slightly nostalgic music. They have named Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Silverchair as some of their key influences, as well as contemporary acts like Citizen, Basement, and Nothing. And with touches of all these bands in their sound, they’ve ultimately been able to create something that sounds dreamy, riffy, and energetic—all in just over three minutes.

Sunbleached recently dropped a trio of singles, including Rain on Hot Cement which racked up  multiple spins on triple J (Short.Fast.Loud. and Unearthed). The track also saw the band perform at the sold-out Best Served Loud festival, hosted by Young Henrys and Greaser Bar. They were set to both join Fangz on their sold-out Prove Me Wrong tour and perform at the From the Floor Up music festival at the Triffid before the pandemic interrupted their plans.

Flowers Grow From Ugly Places is available to pre-save/pre-order now. It was produced and mixed by Tristan Higginson from Waxflower—a childhood friend of guitarist Joey Keating. Higginson also brought in Grant Berry from Fader Mastering, who’s worked with a stack of huge names, including Being As An Ocean, While She Sleeps, and Yours Truly.
