Melbourne lads The Smith Street Band have released their brand-new single and accompanying music video, I Still Dream About You. The track is the second release from the band’s upcoming fifth studio album, Don’t Waste Your Anger.

On the inspiration for the new single, frontman Wil Wagner says, “for years after quitting smoking I had a recurring dream where I would just roll and smoke a cigarette and I thought it was interesting that my body, or subconscious, was holding on to something I’d tried to quit. Thinking about that idea is what inspired this song!”
The album was set to be released in June, but the band have decided to move it forward and will now be available digitally on Friday 17th April.
“We have an album that is recorded, mixed, mastered and ready to go but with the outbreak of Coronavirus and the whole world grinding to a halt we don’t know when we’ll get physical copies or when we will be able to tour it,” says Wagner.
“So we figured instead of sitting on these songs for who knows how long we’d release it now and as soon as the restrictions on getting together allow it we’ll get back in our studio and make more music!”
Don’t Waste Your Anger was recorded and mixed completely off-grid by bassist Fitzy in the band’s Bush House Studios in regional Victoria. To celebrate the release in the best way they can during the restrictions, Wagner will be performing acoustic sets live on the band’s Facebook page daily at 8.00pm, seeing him ‘tour’ different rooms of his house and conduct a live Q&A with another band member.
I Still Dream About You is available on all streaming platforms. The Smith Street Band’s fifth studio album Don’t Waste Your Anger will be available digitally on Friday 17th April.
