MADISON MINOR // If You Want to Build a Legacy, You’re Gonna Have to Break Some Leggs

Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer are touring together, My Chemical Romance has reformed and Bring Me The Horizon has revisited the Count Your Blessings era. We truly are living in Twenty Nine-Scene, and Madison Minor is out to prove it with their new single, If You Want to Build a Legacy, You’re Gonna Have to Break Some Leggs (or Legacy for short).

Legacy takes cues from early 2000’s emo, but leaves behind the guyliner and skintight jeans. Instead of falling back on genre cliches, it champions a sweet and sour multi-vocal approach. It’s gimmick-free, and it’s done well.

Making no secret of their appreciation for seminal scene icons like Alexisonfire, Underoath and Taking Back Sunday, the band has filled the track with clean guitars, punchy little drum lines and harmonies with more twists and turns than an episode of Black Mirror.

Legacy takes cues from early 2000’s emo, but leaves behind the guyliner and skintight jeans.

Ironically, these punchy vibes carry through to the track’s official video. Initially planned to be filmed in an ice rink, as a nod to the Tonya Harding reference in the title,  the band instead buddied up with X Fitness and Boxing Budgewoi for the “boxing-inspired” clip. Bizarrely, the band has admitted that they met for the first time at its shoot. Don’t let this fool you though, they’ve still managed to pull it out of the hat and nail their nostalgic emo-rock sound.

Madison Minor avoid sinking into the sandpit of cliches with Legacy and have instead filled the track with catchy as fuck moments. It’ll be interesting to see what else the future holds for this five-piece.

STICK THIS NEXT TO: Alexisonfire, Taking Back Sunday, Underoath
