Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
August is a post-hardcore banger with an alluring melodic undercurrent. Full of sentimental lyrics telling a story of lost love and regret, August is a solid track for Hollow Doubt, a hardcore band fresh out of Brisbane.

August sees Hollow Doubt prove what they’re capable of so early in their career as a band. Ripe with head-thrashing riffs and classic melodic-hardcore chord progressions, August is a strong release for the band.
Drummer Shannon Carruth keeps a satisfying consistency throughout the track, providing a tasteful amount of fills and interesting grooves to back up the hardcore riffs being played by guitarists Peter Alexander and James Briggs.
Hollow Doubt are well on their way to making a mark on the Australian heavy scene.
The lead work in the guitars is certainly effective in backing up the rhythmic parts, and does well to provide the track with an appealing, emotional melody. Vocalist James Fleming also displays strong potential on August, sounding reminiscent of some heavyweight vocalists in the hardcore scene -think Stepson and Capsize.
August might feel a bit generic when you look through the lyrics, or begin to compare the structure and guitar work to other hardcore bands. Yet, despite this, it still feels like a fun, memorable song that is perfect for a relaxed listen when you’re in the mood for some emotive hardcore.
The track is a great early release for the band, and with some more refined work in the writing stages, and more time to develop their own sound Hollow Doubt are well on their way to making a mark on the Australian heavy scene.
