The new, self-titled record will be the group’s fifth, and their second full length release with Epitaph Records.

To sweeten the news even further, Defeater have also treated fans with the release of the album’s first single, Mother’s Sons, and its accompanying music video to tie them over until the album drops in a couple of months on May 10.

The new album was produced with the established Will Yip, who has previously worked with the likes of La Dispute and Quicksand and will certainly bring out the best in the band and allow them to reach their full, powerful potential. The first single released from Defeater—Mother’s Sons—shows a lot of promise and sets expectations high for the upcoming 11-track record.

The long-awaited news is sure to excite the band’s loyal followers, who have been patient while the group took a well-earned and much needed break to focus on their own health and personal issues. Since forming in 2004, the band have gained a legion of supporters, winning fans over with their melodic and creative style and narrative-like lyrics. The new album will also be the first since the departure of long-time guitarist Jason Maas who left the band in 2015, citing personal and creative differences. Fans will be curious to see how the break and the departure of Maas will impact the new record, although judging by the first single, it seems that the band is still on track for success and reaching the heights they are capable of.
