Face Melting

Fallen, the new single from Adelaide heavy metal band Alium is a classic sounding metal-with-a-modern-twist track.

It’s the second single from the band, following on from their debut single Messenger which was released in January of this year.

Alium formed in 2016 and they have been working hard since their inception, playing gigs and winning a ‘Battle of the Bands’ in Adelaide. Wanting to release quality tracks to a solid fan base, the five have carefully taken their time to refine their musical talents to create epic tracks that are composed well and that blend a classic heavy metal style with today’s modern sounds.

Fallen runs at just over five minutes and is a blend of face-melting riffs, hammering drums, chunky bass lines and a modern take on an old-school thrash metal style of vocals.

Kicking off with an intro that features a nice little guitar solo that conjures memories of traditional riffs from heavy metal and thrash bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica, it’s easy to hear where Alium draw their influences from.

Fallen runs at just over five minutes and is a blend of face-melting riffs, hammering drums, chunky bass lines and a modern take on an old-school thrash metal style of vocals. Lyrically, the concept of Fallen tackles the agendas behind organised religion. In it, the lyrics angrily call out the corruption and hypocrisy in these organisations with vocalist Rhys Jackson Stars alternating between spitting out his words at speed and throwing in some raw, epic screams to get the message across.

Stars’ raw vocals are complimented well by the musicianship of the band and overall, the track, like their debut, shows promise of a young metal band who are able to embrace the modern styles of metal without losing that classic sound, and who can create music that you can’t help but bang your head to.

Alium are working hard to cement their place in the Adelaide and Australian scenes and they are definitely a band that you should keep an eye on if you are a fan of the old-school, no-frills, high-energy heavy metal and thrash.

STICK THIS NEXT TO: Iron Maiden, Metallica, Trivium
