WAAX // Return With Powerful New Single ‘FU’

Brisbane legends WAAX have returned with a searing new single, FU.

Boasting dark, hooky riffs, an anthemic chorus and uncompromising raw lyrics, the band wear their anger on their sleeves with the track—and it ties in perfectly with its short, sharp one two punch title. More than that though, FU sees the band embrace all the influences that make up the entire sum of their parts, moving beyond their punk rock roots.

Speaking about the track, frontwoman Maz De Vita said:

“This song is about a situation with someone in your life who is taking advantage of you and finally having to acknowledge reality and stand up to them. I hope it’s as cathartic for the listener as it was to write.”

FU first premiered on Triple J’s Good Nights, and received a stack of fan support in the process. It is the follow up to their biggest song to date Labrador (ICYMI, it nabbed the #88 slot in Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2018).

The chart topping tune saw the five piece collaborate with Australian music icon Bernard Fanning as producer, and Grammy-winner Nick DiDia (Bruce Springsteen, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam). Naturally, all three parties reunited to create FU.

Over the last few years WAAX have sold out national tours across the country, released two massive EPs and supported big time internationals like Wolf Alice, Fall Out Boy and Biffy Clyro. They have also made appearances at Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Good Things and Unify Gathering, and have racked up an impressive amount of local music awards along the way.

WAAX signed with Australian indie label stalwart Dew Process in 2018. FU is available now through the label, as well as Universal Music Australia.
