Kicking off with a prowling bassline and sprinkled drumwork, Don’t Talk About It welds wavering guitars, creamy vocals and energetic injections of brass as it lolls, sways, and flows between up-tempo pulsations and more laidback fare. With a fiery guitar solo for good measure, Don’t Talk About It firmly snapshots Super Ghost’s diverse genre sensibilities, stretching the indie rock trope into slinky and lush territory.
While coated with plenty of spark and punch, Don’t Talk About It lyrically delves into a story of a relationship slowly falling apart, from the breakdown of affection to uncertainties and avoiding confrontation. Accompanying the shifting sonic dynamics of the overarching track, the end result is a significantly polished earworm that consistently aims to tug at the heartstrings via vocalist Hudson MacMahon’s fluid delivery.
“Don’t Talk About It is simply about the demise of a relationship where you can’t address fundamental issues or infidelity,” McMahon recently revealed, speaking about Don’t Talk About It. “When there are suspicions of wrongdoing, whether actual or not, there can be an uncomfortable pressure in the relationship where you feel dread and guilt whilst your partner is unknowing.”

“[The song] encapsulates the realisation that a relationship is over, but grapples with the need to make it work and the feelings of worthlessness and guilt that come with being unable to address these issues and wrongdoings.”
Emerging in 2021, Super Ghost have previously supported the likes of Mid City and Choosing Sides, with sold out headline shows at Vinnie’s Dive Bar on the Gold Coast and at Brisbane’s Greaser Bar and The Bearded Lady also under their belts. Via support from the Regional Arts Development Fund in partnership with the Queensland Government, Super Ghost are also currently churning full steam ahead to release more of their heady tunes in the not-too-distant future. For now, come immerse yourself into this jangly new tune and ride off into the hazy sunset with Super Ghost and Don’t Talk About It.
