THE SMITH STREET BAND // Where Is Chris Cowburn?

Yes – a lot of you are asking questions about the “new” face in the latest publicity photo of The Smith Street Band – cos it ain’t the TSSB we’re used to.

The obvious omission is drummer and co-founder Chris Cowburn, who has been “replaced” in the photo by Matt Bodiam, formerly of now-defunct Melbourne rockers A Death In The Family.

Also pictured are confirmed full-time members Jess Locke (Jess Locke Band) and Lucy Wilson of Melbourne ‘love’ and soul band The Sugarcanes.*

Both are appearing at the Smithies’ Pool Party at Coburg Velodrome on 17th of March.

A picture tells a thousand words – and what it’s attached to speaks volumes. It just so happens this photo was to publicise their national tour, and not their pool party. Curiouser and curiouser.

Hysteria contacted their publicist for more info, and an official statement is to come in the following days. We’ll have to hold tight in the mean time.

The band (along with the now infamous photo) announced a gargantuan three-month headline tour of Australia today, alongside Bec Sandridge and Press Club.

*CORRECTION 1416 AEDT: We originally stated Jess and Lucy were not members of The Smith Street Band. They have in fact been permanent members for over a year, according to their publicist.
