Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
Who needs a cauldron or witches hat anyway! Nighteyes has cast a spell on us all on her own with her enchanting debut single, Lowlight.

It’s the first taste of her upcoming album, set to drop later this year. Meshing the best bits of hard rock and dark electro-pop, it also shines a light on the brains behind the project Rachel Trainor, or as we’ve dubbed her, Lana Del Rey’s evil twin.
“I had a vision in my mind when I wrote this song of the particular kind of light the moon emits, how it doesn’t entirely illuminate the dark and makes scary shadows out of things that would be benign during the day. The lyrics in the verses weave fear and paranoia into what would typically be a peaceful moonlit night, exploring the state you can get into when you’re so anxious that even the trees seem menacing,” she explains.
Trainor began recording Lowlight while on tour in March 2020, creating a rough mix with the limited equipment available. She adds: “It’s been a labour of love, finding time during lockdowns to try different sounds. Throughout the songwriting process, my producer and partner, Drew Handcock (Honeybone, Divine Wave), was instrumental in helping me figure out the sound I was hearing in my head.”
Trainor has toured all around Australia and New Zealand, performing with various bands, cabaret, and circus shows like Honeybone, Badgers, The Merindas, Coda Chroma, Rebel and The Defiant. As part of the psych-garage project, Honeybone, she shared stages with the likes of Amanda Palmer and Wofat, Dragon and Beastwars.
Lowlight will hit all major streaming services on March 3rd. It is currently featured live in the contemporary circus show, The Defiant, in which Trainor is the sole musician.
You can catch it as part of the Midsumma Festival and Adelaide Fringe this month or pre-save it here.
