The impresarios at this fine website have gathered together some of Australia’s top extreme metal talent, packing them into a sweatbox and turning up the heat with searing riffs, facemelting leads, and moshpits that’ll roast posers alive. If you’re coming for one or two of your favourites, now is the time to familiarise yourself with the entire line-up to make the most of your hot death metal injection.

Ahh, Night Of The Living Shred. Is there anything finer than cracking open a tinny and snapping your neck to a thousand decibels worth of death metal? Conan the Barbarian might disagree, but then again, when have YOU seen him tear up a pit?

Night Of The Living Shred

WHORETOPSY

What’s your feeling on playing Night Of The Living Shred?

It’s a pretty good feeling that we’ve been put in that position, for us and A Night In Texas to headline that gig. It’s our first Brisbane headliner in a while. I reckon it’s going to be pretty fun.

What’s it feel like getting tapped to headline?

Yeah, playing last, it isn’t always essential or better for the band. It’s great being put as a headline, but in terms of having the crowd see and stuff, it’s not essential to be in that position, if that makes sense. It’s nice to headline, but if we weren’t, it wouldn’t be the end of the world!

Which bands are you keen to see on the day?

I’m keen to see I Shall Devour and A Night In Texas. I think we’re just going to float around. There’s some bands there I haven’t seen as well such as Darkcell. They’re pretty different, so it’d be cool to see them stick out. I’m pretty keen to see some of the drumming of some of these bands because they’re pretty, pretty intense.

For fans who will see you for the first time at Night Of The Living Shred, what can they expect?

So since the new album, obviously we haven’t been there, so we our new album is fairly different to our old one, so it’s going to be a pretty different experience to what we’ve done in Brisbane before. Zach, our vocalist who moved down to Melbourne from Brisbane in the past couple of years, he had never been on an album before. This album we’ve just done kind of caters to his style. It’s going to be fairly different. If you haven’t heard the new music, it’s going to be fairly different to what anyone’s seen in the past.

What’s the most exciting thing happening in your band’s world for 2019?

We are in discussion of touring Europe which will be cool if we can hook that up. We got a couple agencies over there, looking for a good tour for us. We’re hopefully looking to lock down a big Aussie tour. We were actually going to base a tour around Night of the Living Shred to go into March, but if you’ve seen what’s going on in March, all these, lots of international touring bands.

Something about computers, I believe.

Yeah, Download. There’s a lot going on in March and it’s probably best for us to postpone a bit. And so, the month is a bit more free so we don’t clash with everyone. Yeah, but that’ll definitely be happening later in the year anyway.

What’s the mandatory extreme metal album every metalhead should have in their collection?

I’m a bit of mid-2000s metalhead, I like DevilDriver and Lamb of God and all that stuff. I don’t listen to slam bands, I’m just in one. [laughs] // Jake

A NIGHT IN TEXAS

What’s your feeling on playing Night Of The Living Shred?

We’re stoked to be playing with some of the best underground metal bands Australia has to offer! Gatherings of EXTREME music don’t happen as often as they should and we’re happy to be apart of this years Night Of The Living Shred!

Which bands are you keen to see on the day?

Our old time friends I Shall Devour are always a treat to watch perform! They are a wild mix of Italy’s Fleshgod Apocalypse and our own Thy Art Is Murder. We did our first ever tour with them and have remained friends for all this time. Their new record is dropping this year I think, keep an eye out.

For fans who will see you for the first time at Night Of The Living Shred, what can they expect?

High energy, double kicks, riffs and heavy breakdowns. We all break our backs for our live show and love when the crowd does the same. Our bass player also smells on stage, bring soap and cologne.

What’s the most exciting thing happening in your band’s world for 2019?

Apart from having some cool tours and new shows in the works we’re currently finalising writing for a special release set for 2019 which we’re super excited about. You’ll hear more about that soon!

What’s the mandatory extreme metal album every metalhead should have in their collection?

Let’s stick with some OG Aussie releases for this one …

ZEOLITE

What’s your feeling on playing Night Of The Living Shred?

Man, we’re super stoked. We’ve done heaps of shows in Brisbane and it’s almost like a second home to us now, we’ve played up there heaps. So we had Dead of Winter last year and just different shows here and there, up there. This’ll be an interesting one for us cause it’s the first time we’re not playing crowbar in Brisbane. Sick line-up so very, very keen.

Which bands are you keen to see on the day?

Man, we’ve played with a lot of the bands on that line-up and there’s a couple of bands we’re really keen to play with again, but we’ve never ever had a chance to play with I Shall Devour. We’ve nearly played a show with them but unfortunately there was some date issues and stuff, so we ended up not being able to. So very keen to see those guys. Very keen to play with Whoretopsy again. Really stacked line up, very cool.

For fans who will see you for the first time at Night Of The Living Shred, what can they expect?

We try to put on a reasonably energetic show. I don’t know, just like, we’ve got technicality, we’ve got breakdowns, we’ve gut ears, we’ve got pig-screams, we’ve got an eclectic mix of different things hopefully everyone at the show can enjoy.

What’s the most exciting thing happening in your band’s world for 2019?

Oh man, we’ve actually got a fair bit on the plate now. We’ve got a new release coming out this year. We’ve got a few shows coming up. Unfortunately it’s one of those things in the entertainment industry, there’s a lot of things booked in that you can’t talk about. We’ve locked some really cool stuff in. The new release we’re doing, we’ve got some different stuff. I’m experimenting with the vocals a little bit more. Trying to progress the sound a little bit, and get carving away, chipping away, at creating our own sound that defines us, hopefully, apart from everyone else. And just keep going in that direction.

What’s the mandatory extreme metal album every metalhead should have in their collection?

That is so tough. Metal’s one of those interesting genres where it’s kinda like pop in the sense that there are so many sub genres that go underneath the metal umbrella. For me, I suppose something like … Chaosphere by Meshuggah. That was ’98 or ’99, and gets really solidified their chaotic sound that differentiated them from everyone else. And just, I think it set the bar for doing some really different stuff. And the production levels and stuff. Everything about that album was a bit of a game changer for them. And also, it pushed artists in the same genre as them, or sub genre, to do different stuff and try something new. // Fraser

DARKCELL

Which bands are you keen to see on the day?

All of them! I love seeing bands, especially ones I haven’t seen yet.

For fans who will see you for the first time at Night Of The Living Shred, what can they expect?

A slightly mind enhancing, energy building experience and one to keep the demons at bay. We bring the kind of show, no band in this country does and we’re a one of a kind black sheep, which we are very comfortable with. Plus we throw a kickass party onstage and engage with everyone who wants to just have a damn good time.

What’s the most exciting thing happening in your band’s world for 2019?

Spreading the darkness overseas and unleashing our most definitive album to date. [Listen to their new single, Reign of the Monsters, here.]

It’s our first show of the year and first time playing in Brisbane, so we’re really looking forward to it. Plus it’s a sick line-up!

PUNCTURE WOUND

What’s your feeling on playing Night Of The Living Shred?

We are extremely excited and so honoured to be asked to play this show. We see this as a great opportunity to show off our new songs and hopefully gain some new fans.

Which bands are you keen to see on the day?

We are keen to see slam kings, Whoretopsy. I have personally seen them before and they slayed the stage. Also, A Night in Texas. I’m personally not familiar with them, but from what I’ve heard, they will be heavy.

For fans who will see you for the first time at Night Of The Living Shred, what can they expect?

We are a no bullshit old school death metal band. Nothing more, nothing less. So if you like your death metal, you will love us. We are opening the show with a bang, so make sure you get there early to catch us. Come and say Hi…

What’s the most exciting thing happening in your band’s world for 2019?

We are in the final stages of completing the last couple of songs for our first full length album. We have songs like Necroinsemenation and Anthem of Agony which will melt faces. Plus with the addition of Pedro on lead guitar, we feel like a band that has matured and progressed a lot. We also have a new T-shirt coming out in the next month or so. It’s brutal! In 2017 we released a limited edition mini CD called Brutal Butchery of Bargain Basement Bodies which sold out reasonably quick, and the response has been great. So if you liked the mini CD, you will love the full length LP.

What’s the mandatory extreme metal album every metalhead should have in their collection?

I cant speak for the rest of the band, but for me SuffocationEffigy of the Forgotten is the most heavy and brutal album ever recorded. For its time, it was just heavier and faster than anything else around. Followed by EntombedClandestine. Ultra heavy! // Travis
