Breathe in Colours takes massive influence from dystopian epics Blade Runner and Akira. While their predecessor Tied Down focused on writing with an introspective point of view, LP2 instead tackles the problems of the modern world—and this pays off in spades for the band. Despite the darker, cyberpunk concept, there’s an air of hopefulness that lingers throughout the record, with lyrics about overcoming it all anchoring this mighty ten tracker.

And it’s not just the lyrics that prove this to be a record of contrasts. Vocalist Maja Shining is a standout here, whether it be with her ethereal tones (see: Is It Gone) or hellish screams (see: Breathe in Colours).

With Breathe in Colours, Forever Still have branched out and in doing so, have brought a sense of brightness into a numbingly, grey universe.

In some part, this shift in sound has got to be attributed to the months the band spent on the road with metal juggernauts, Children of Bodom and Lacuna Coil.  The band described both tours as ones that helped refine their songwriting skills while also increasing their experimentation with a heavier sound—and this rings true with Breathe in Colours.

Not only maturing their sound, but also diversifying it (we told you it was a record of contrasts), the LP tears through some classic digital influences, whilst also throwing in crushing riffs and singalong moments—it even finds time for some balladesque moments on Pieces.
