Sitting in that “This Ain’t The Summer Of Love” slot between outright metal and fist-swinging hardcore, Tombstone is all about that workmanlike distortion pedal, staunch martial pace, and belligerent crusty vocal delivery; all combined demand your attention.

Though this is unmistakable old school hardcore, the guitars owe much to Slayer and Morbid Angel, whinnying about like startled iron horses about to trample idle posers. Ratcheting down for a four-on-the-floor groove that’s no less relenting that what came before, everything stops. Four counts on drumsticks and bam, a canyonero-wide breakdown that would make even the most ardent death metaller salivate.

If you want to wake up grandma this Christmas, put on this latest habanero-flavoured condensed hardcore track by GC/Brissy’s wrecking crew Entrapment.

This two minute symphony of destruction ends in a triumphant climax, their final rhythmic blow echoing through a frenzied mosh. Though the production is DIY as it gets, veteran knob-twiddlers Brendan Auld and Mark Perry let music breathe instead of snuffing it out with effects on top of effects. Here’s our warning to the hardcore set: it’s going in dry, and you’ll love every two and a quarter minutes of it.
