Dear Joey and Brooke, What a wild ride! I just wanted to write to express …
Sydney’s DOWNGIRL has burst out of the gates with massive amounts of confidence on their debut single, Beauty Queen.

The track stacks riffs, the primary rock and roll currency, high. And it throws about a 90s grunge/riot grrl/nu-punk energy, while also placing a strong focus on tight production.
The level of grit present in Beauty Queen is off the chain too, and it bleeds into the band’s performance. From the punchy melodies of Skarlett Saramore (drums) and Lou Harbidge (bass) to the bloody beaut vocals of Kristen Adams (vocals/lead guitar) and Alex Neville (vocals/rhythm guitar), there’s a whole lot to love. And we haven’t even got into the lyrical content yet.
Beauty Queen is magnetic.
Thematically, Beauty Queen was inspired by scream queens like Carrie and Suspiria’s Suzy – multidimensional pop-culture icons that tore down both the idea of the final girl and gender norms. It’s a refreshing concept and will undoubtedly leave listeners feeling powerful, particularly with lines like: “You’re the baby. You’re the whore. You’re everything and more.” All in all, Beauty Queen is magnetic. And with the band planning on touring this month, it looks like we won’t have to wait long to see it hit the stage and blow some speakers out.
